In the winter, when my garden is buried knee deep in snow, I love to look back at photos I’ve taken of those long July days, of flowers, bees and veggies flourishing in my sun-warmed beds. I feel lucky to live in the age of digital photos, I can flip through my phone and enjoy the bright colors and rich greens of those seemingly long ago summer days, but I know the Victorians had no such luxuries. They could look at a painting, I suppose, or if they were lucky, maybe they had a locket like this one, to warm their wintry hearts and give them hope for the flowers that Spring would yield.
This lovely hand crafted, sterling silver, Victorian collar and locket set was made in Birmingham, England in 1880. The collar is 17 inches long and the locket measures 59.8 mm north to south including the bale and is 35.9 mm across. Beautifully hand engraved, the locket is marked with an full set of English hallmarks and has two frames to hold your photos. It opens easily and closes with a light snap.
These sets are wonderful in so many ways, they can be worn with or without the locket, with or without the extra drop, with the clasp in front or back to accommodate many different outfits, looks and necklines.
