I was enjoying the early morning briskness as I waltzed in to one of my favorite hidden gems of an antique store. After trying on too many tweed jackets from the 70’s, and shopping the shoe section for far too long (the brown leather go-go boots were to die for), the owner pulled out a silk drawstring bag. Between your basic gold bands, a silver bauble or two, and a few loose garnets, was this stunner. I slipped it on and wore it for the next week. I had to test it out before selling it to you, I am a professional, after all.
This antique Edwardian ring was handcrafted in England around 1910. It showcases a lively display of three opals patterned with four diamonds set in 18 karat gold. Each of the opals are cabochon cut, with the center stone measuring 5.3 x 4.3 x 1.5 mm. The diamonds are each rose cuts and measure about 1 mm in diameter. The ring face measures 7.6 x 16 x 3.5 mm off the finger and the band with is 1.7 mm at the back. It weighs 2.4 grams and is a size 6.75. It bears the gold purity mark, “18” and the anchor mark indicating it was made in Birmingham, England.
