I was thrilled when I crossed paths with this fantastic Arts and Crafts necklace. So many of the wonderful Arts and Crafts necklaces that I see are done in silver and enamel, so finding one in gold is always a treat, finding one in high karat gold, a treat and when you add in the wonderful combination of rich, purple amethyst and rich, blue/green opals, it is a true feast for the eyes.
Hand crafted in England in about 1910, this wonderful necklace has stunning clean lines of 15 karat gold. The center stone is a 8.4×6.6×5.8 mm and weighs about 1.70 carats. The necklace is further set with two cabochon opals, one is 7.3x5x2.4 mm and weighs about 0.40 carats, the other is 6.4×4.5×2 mm and weighs about 0.25 carats, both are gorgeous bright opals with a lot of fire and life. The chain is 17.25 inches long around the neck, the drop falls 48.6×28.3 mm and the necklace weighs 6.6 grams. This necklace is marked on the reverse with ’15ct’.
I have to admit, I actually bought this beautiful antique necklace awhile ago, it’s taken its time and had a little detour through my own personal jewelry box, I couldn’t help it, this handcrafted antique beauty just has style in spades!
