French Silver Art Nouveau Slide Locket Mirror Pendant Maple Leaf Victoria Sterling Antique Jewelry

We have a giant silver maple tree along our driveway. It is the first of our trees to show signs of life in the spring and the first to have it’s branch-tips kissed with color when Summer hands September over to Autumn. Whether you call them, whirlybirds, helicopters or by their scientific name, samara, when they blow off of our big tree in the early summer and spiral down gently to the earth they are a sight to behold.

The silver maple leaves on this wonderful locket arch out over a blooming branch laden with whirlybirds just days from taking flight. This fabulous large oval slide locket contains two mirrors, one standard and one a bit concave (this was done intentionally so that you can see your whole face in the small mirror, it’s rather ingenious!). This large locket was made in France in about 1890 in the Art Nouveau style. It is silver (min. 900) and is marked ‘depose’ and with the French silver mark and makers mark. The locket measures 72 mm top to bottom including the bale and 40.5 mm across at the widest point, it is 10.7 mm thick and weighs 36.7 grams.

There are a few small scratches on one side of the locket, please see photos. It is the same design on both sides.
